Liz Fenton OBE

Director of Nursing and Midwifery at NHS England

Liz is a Queen’s Nurse and Visiting Professor in the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Social Care at Canterbury Christ Church University. She qualified as a registered nurse in 1981 after completing her nurse education at King’s College Hospital, London, and has held clinical and leadership roles in acute and community settings, including at Board level.  

Liz was awarded the title of Queen’s Nurse in 2017 and an OBE for services to nursing in 2021. She is undertaking a PhD at the University of Worcester, focused on retention from the perspective of nurses with long careers in the NHS.  

Liz also undertakes national and international accreditation, benchmarking services against best practice, and chairs the CHKS Accreditation Council.
