Professor Claire McGuinness

Strategic Professional Lead for Nursing and Midwifery Education and Regulation in the Chief Nursing Officer’s Directorate at the Scottish Government

Claire is a registered children’s nurse and leads and supports policy development relating to nursing and midwifery education and regulation.

Working with the Chief Nursing Officer, Chief Midwifery Officer, policy colleagues and key stakeholders, she provides expert professional advice on professional standards, pre- and post-registration education, quality assurance and regulatory compliance.  

Claire’s PhD focused on the role of persuasion and influence when teaching others how to teach in practice. She retains a particular interest in all aspects of practice learning and is an Honorary Professor at Glasgow Caledonian University.
