Before you start

You should read this guide in full to understand the evidence you need to support your application before you begin.

Once you're ready, you can start your online application.

Start application

Choosing a field of nursing

If you have completed a pre-registration nursing qualification in your country of training and are applying to the nursing part of our register you can choose which field of nursing to apply to.

Your qualification doesn’t need to be specific to the field of nursing you are applying to, but you’ll need to complete the specific test of competence for the field you choose to show you have the relevant knowledge and skills for that field.

You won’t be able to use the same pre-registration qualification to apply to more than one field of nursing.

Requesting reasonable adjustments

If you need us to make an adjustment to the application process, email us at overseas.enquiries@nmc-uk.org. You should include your name, contact details and the adjustment that you're seeking.

We'll consider this in line with the Equality Act 2010.

Visit our equality, diversity and inclusion page for more information on our reasonable adjustments policy.

You will need to

1. Take route assessment

At the start of your application, we’ll ask you some questions about your nationality, training and the country you trained in. This is to make sure you're using the right route to get on to our register.

If you’re applying via the correct route, we’ll then ask you to create an NMC Online account.

2. Create your NMC Online account

We'll ask you for some details to register your NMC Online account. Then we'll send you an email to verify your account.

You'll use your NMC Online account to submit the rest of your application. You can also track the progress of your application in your account.

Once you're on the register, you'll use your NMC Online account to maintain your registration with us so it's important you keep your personal details up-to-date.

Check your junk folder

Our emails may go into your junk email folder so make sure you check this regularly. To stop this from happening, add ‘noreply@nmc-uk.org’ to your safe senders list.

Next step

Once you've created your NMC Online account, you'll be able to login and complete your eligibility and qualification application.

The first step of this is to provide identity evidence.
