What Alexis did

Alexis spoke with Freddie and his mother about the importance of road safety following his admission after a road traffic collision. She approached the conversation in a non-judgemental and supportive manner, taking into account Freddie’s age and level of understanding.

Prior to the discussion, Alexis reviewed Freddie’s admission documentation to identify whether any additional communication needs or adjustments were required. She used this information to plan how to deliver information in a way that would be accessible and appropriate.

Alexis began by exploring Freddie’s existing understanding of road safety. Freddie was able to reflect that he had not used a pedestrian crossing and recognised this had contributed to the incident. Alexis supported this reflection by discussing safer choices, including the importance of using designated crossing points.

Throughout the discussion, Alexis ensured that both Freddie and his mother were involved, checking understanding and encouraging questions to support shared understanding and future decision-making.
