Sandra Igwe MBE
Sandra Igwe MBE is the Founder and Chief Executive of The Motherhood Group, a UK maternal health organisation working to address inequalities in maternity care, mental health and maternal outcomes.
Drawing on lived experience, research and community engagement, she works across policy, healthcare, digital innovation and public advocacy to ensure that the voices of Black mothers and underserved communities influence decision-making.
Sandra has contributed to national maternity policy through government roundtables, parliamentary discussions and the Maternal Health Taskforce led by Baroness Amos. Her organisation produced the UK’s largest Black Maternal Mental Health report and founded the Black Maternal Health Conference UK and Black Maternal Mental Health Week UK. Through The Motherhood Group, she has supported thousands of mothers and delivered CPD-accredited cultural competency training to healthcare professionals across NHS Trusts.
She is also the founder of Mumbrite, a culturally responsive maternal health platform providing digital solutions including counselling, peer support, wellbeing programmes, live expert-led sessions and trusted healthcare connections for mothers from diverse backgrounds. Sandra is the author of My Black Motherhood: Mental Health, Stigma, Racism and the System, which was selected for the NHS-backed Reading Well programme. She was awarded an MBE for her contribution to maternal health and social impact.
