Ben Wesson
As Chief of Staff, Ben provides strategic leadership across the NMC’s core corporate, governance and assurance functions, enabling effective executive decision‑making and delivery of the NMC’s strategic priorities. He oversees the private office, governance and panel support, corporate performance and risk, enquiries and complaints, quality of decision‑making and regulatory assurance - ensuring that the NMC operates with clarity, confidence and accountability.
Ben is a senior leader with extensive experience across regulation, local government and the charity sector. At the NMC, he has led complex, high‑profile portfolios and delivered sustained improvements in customer experience, organisational assurance and performance management. His work has focused on strengthening governance, improving decision quality and embedding a culture of continuous improvement.
Before joining the NMC, Ben worked in local government, including as a political adviser, and later led projects and public affairs at the Patients Association, where he championed patient voice and influenced both health policy and service improvement. Alongside his role at the NMC, Ben is an elected local councillor, embedding additional insight into public service leadership, scrutiny and governance.
