Reflections of a nurse: Caroline Ogunsola
Published on 12 May 2026
Ahead of International Nurses Day, we’re spotlighting Caroline Ogunsola, Professional Development Lead Nurse at East London NHS Foundation Trust.

What does being a nurse mean to you at this stage in your career?
At this stage, nursing means combining clinical expertise with visionary leadership and influence - supporting not only patient care but also shaping and influencing systems, mentoring others, and improving outcomes at a broader level.
Can you share a moment in your leadership role that made you feel particularly proud?
A moment that stands out for me is seeing a team member grow in confidence and skill, knowing that the environment and support I helped create contributed to their development and ultimately improved patient care and productivity.
How do the professional standards you work to shape the care and culture within your team or organisation?
Professional standards provide a foundation for consistency, accountability, and compassion. They guide decision-making, reinforce safe and ethical practice, and help foster a culture where quality care, quality improvements and mutual respect are non-negotiable.
What message would you share with nurses at different stages of their careers this International Nurses Day?
Be open minded to enable empowerment, Stay curious, stay compassionate, and recognise the value you bring at every stage. Whether you’re learning, growing, or leading, your contribution matters – nursing is a lifelong journey of impact and continuous development.
