Nafiza Anwar
Nafiza Anwar is a highly experienced Nurse Midwife with over 38 years’ experience spanning clinical care, education, service improvement, and project management.
She has a deep-rooted passion for tackling health inequalities, particularly within maternity services, both in the UK and globally. Her work is driven by the belief that no one should be left behind.
As Co-Founder of the Association of South Asian Midwives (ASAM), Nafiza champions equity in maternity care for underserved communities and advocates for a well-represented, culturally sensitive, and well-equipped workforce. She believes that building services in genuine collaboration with communities is key to addressing need, reducing harm, and improving outcomes and satisfaction.
Nafiza currently works as a project manager focussing on Public Health and Postnatal services for maternity services across Northeast London. She played a pivotal role in developing the region’s Maternal Medicine service. She is a member of several national advisory groups including MBRRACE-UK, the Capital Midwife EDI Group, and the Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer’s BAME Strategic Advisory Group.
A Florence Nightingale Leadership Scholar and RCM Fellow, Nafiza’s contributions have been nationally recognised, including in the GEMS 75@75 initiative and through an invitation to Buckingham Palace by HM King Charles in 2023.
