Benash Nazmeen

Benash Nazmeen is an Assistant Professor of Midwifery at the University of Bradford and a registered midwife with extensive experience across clinical, educational and research settings.

BNazmeen img01.jpgShe is a co-founder and Director of the Association of South Asian Midwives (ASAM), a national organisation committed to equity, inclusion and workforce development in maternity services.

Benash has contributed to several NIHR-funded research projects, including studies on digital maternity care, language barriers in healthcare, and perinatal mental health following early pregnancy loss. Her academic focus lies in advancing equity in maternity care, particularly through language-concordant care, culturally responsive practice, and structural change.

Alongside her academic work, Benash has held leadership roles in equity and safety initiatives across the NHS and serves as a regular advisor on national policy and practice relating to racial justice and perinatal outcomes. Her current doctoral development is focused on improving communication and safety for multilingual healthcare professionals and service users in maternity care.
