Published on 28 July 2025
Paul Rees MBE, Chief Executive and Registrar of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), today welcomed the appointment of the new Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) for Scotland.
“I am delighted to congratulate Professor Aisha Holloway on her appointment as Chief Nursing Officer for Scotland and wish her every success. This is a vital leadership role within Scotland’s health and social care system, and her dedicated service to nursing over the years – from elevating nursing’s role within global health policy to supporting early career development in nursing - will serve her well in the role.
“Professor Holloway brings a wealth of experience, insight and commitment to the nursing profession, and I have every confidence she will provide strong, compassionate leadership at a critical time for health and care services in Scotland. We look forward to working closely with Professor Holloway to help ensure the highest standards of care for people and communities across the country.
“I wish to thank Anne Armstrong for all that she achieved during her tenure as Interim Chief Nursing Officer and we look forward to continuing to build on the positive relationship that Anne established with us as she resumes her role as Deputy Chief Nursing Officer.
“We remain committed to working collaboratively with our partners across the UK to support the nursing and midwifery professions and protect the public.”
