Finance and Resource Committee
The Finance and Resource Committee advises and assures the Council in discharging its responsibilities with regard to its current and forecast financial position and operational performance and delivery, providing strategic oversight of the organisation’s finances and resources, ensuring Value for Money, long-term financial sustainability and scrutinising the efficient and effective use of resources including its people, finances, estate, technology and data. It supports the Council in maintaining the organisation as a going concern whilst delivering our strategic objectives including programmes to deliver and enable future sustainability.
This committee will subsume the Investment and Accommodation committees.
The Committee consists of five members of Council and two external members with broad investment experience.

Independent members
Gavin Ralston
Gavin spent his entire professional career in investment at Schroders in London, in roles encompassing global equity portfolio management, running the firm’s European business and managing relationships with complex strategic clients such as sovereign wealth funds and global insurers. He retired from full-time work in 2023 but retains several non-executive roles at the firm. He was on the Chapter of St Paul’s Cathedral from 2010 to 2019 and is now Canon Treasurer of Peterborough Cathedral and a Trustee of Cathedral Music Trust.
Tapan Datta
Tapan has been in the investment industry for over three decades, starting out as a financial and markets economist before moving to asset allocation and investment advice for institutional investors with careers in Schroders and Aon. At Aon, he led the global asset allocation team for over a decade, responsible for helping pension funds and other investors to set investment strategy and help guide them through difficult market conditions. He has a long track record of experience being a jargon-free communicator on all investment matters. He has a Ph.D in Economics from Cambridge University.
