The Appointments Board is composed entirely of independent members, and it advises the Council on the appointment of panel members and legal assessors to the Practice Committees, and the appointment of registration appeal panel members to the Registration Appeals Panel.
This includes approving policies governing recruitment and selection, induction and development, appraisal, performance management, remuneration and contractual arrangements.

Jane Slatter (Chair)
Jane has considerable NED experience in a range of chairing roles, in both the Healthcare and social housing sector. She has been an independent consultant since 2006 providing strategic HR services to clients in the public and private sectors, including health. She has worked in a variety of sectors as an HR professional, including at director level, and brings strong HR knowledge to the Board.

Frederick Psyk has experience in a number of Non-Executive Director roles including Vice Chair and Lay Advisor (Governance), Isle of Wight NHS Clinical Commissioning Group, Vice Chair and Non-Executive Director at Avon and Somerset Mental Health NHS Trust and Non-Executive Director at Connexions (West of England). His earlier career included Director and Board member of the international Acer Consulting Group, Managing Director of Hyder Environmental, Regional Director of The Prince’s Trust and an Open University Lecturer in the School of Management.

Angie is an HR consultant having had a long career working for an IT services and solutions provider. Angie brings direct experience to the Board, having served as an NMC FtP panel member from 2008 to 2016 and is also currently a lay member of the conduct committee for the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants. Since November 2021 Angie has been a Fitness To Practise Lay Panellist at the Health Care Professions Council.

Clare is a former senior civil servant, with extensive experience in policy making and ethical regulation and a strong interest in equality, diversity and inclusion. The majority of her civil service career was spent at the Northern Ireland Office, where she was part of the team that negotiated the Good Friday Agreement, the St Andrews Agreement and the UK: EU Joint Report of December 2017. She also served as Deputy Secretary of the Iraq Inquiry and Chief Executive of the Civil Service Commission. She is currently a selection panel chair for the Judicial Appointments Commission, a member of the Infected Blood Inquiry's Expert Group on Public Health and Administration and chair of Reach Charity Limited as well as being actively involved in music education in South West London.

Rob Allan is a qualified Human Resources professional with extensive management experience within the public sector, both at operational and strategic levels, including over 25 years as a board level Director. Robert was most recently Director of Human Resources at Loughborough University, a post he held for ten years until his retirement in 2018. Prior to that he was Director of Human Resources for the Suffolk Constabulary and a number of NHS Trusts. Rob has particular expertise in employment law and professional conduct, having spent a number of years as a Lay Member of Employment Tribunals.
