We’ve appointed Professor Sharon Arkell MBE as Chair of the independent steering group for our reviews of the Code and revalidation.
The group will guide our research and engagement and review any proposals before they are submitted to our governing Council for consideration.
After working as a registered nurse in the NHS, Professor Arkell moved into higher education in 1998. For the past 20 years she has worked at the University of Wolverhampton in a variety of roles, most recently serving as Dean of the Faculty of Education, Health & Wellbeing.
Professor Arkell has led transformative initiatives that have widened participation and improved access to graduate employment. She has been instrumental in expanding the nursing, midwifery and healthcare education portfolio in the West Midlands, introducing new programmes, and growing student numbers.
Sharon has a particular interest in healthcare regulation and fitness to practise and has acted as the co-chair of the Council of Deans of Health Regulation Strategic Policy Group for approximately three years, influencing policy and practice through her engagement with professional and statutory bodies.
She has become a national leader in healthcare education and policy and was recently awarded an MBE in the King’s Birthday Honours List, in recognition of her outstanding services to higher education.
