The breadth of practice group is designed to account for the full breadth of practice that the professionals on our register work across. This covers a wide variety of scopes of practice and work settings, including the NHS, social care, community care, independent settings, education, research, commissioning, management and leadership. It has members from all four countries of the UK, and from all three professions we regulate, including across the four fields of nursing.

Joanne Bosanquet.jpgThe group is chaired by Joanne Bosanquet MBE. Joanne leads The Foundation of Nursing Studies and is a Visiting Professor at the University of Surrey. Joanne has supported the NMC across a number of programmes and is a long-standing member of the NMC Professional Strategic Advisory Group.

The student and recently registered group includes the voices of students and recently registered professionals. Hearing from them is crucial – because only by listening to the voices of those at the start of their journeys can we ensure that the Code and revalidation reflect the realities they will meet during their careers.

Carissa Tomo.pngThe group is co-chaired by Carissa Tomo. Carissa is an internationally registered nurse with a dual registration in both the Philippines and the United Kingdom. She currently serves as a Practice Education Facilitator in NHS Tayside, where she focuses on bridging the gap between clinical practice and modern healthcare demands.Carissa is a passionate advocate for Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) and the digitalization of healthcare, ensuring that the workforce is both representative and future-ready.

Beyond her local role, she is an active member of the Filipino Nurses in UK and the Philippine Nursing Association - UK. She further contributes to the national nursing dialogue as a member of the NMC Diaspora Registrant Associations Forum (DRAF), supporting the integration and voice of internationally educated nurses.

The public advisory group will ensure that this work is centred on the needs, perspectives and experiences of the public and people who use the services of nurses, midwives and nursing associates. Most people’s lives are touched by nursing and midwifery, so it’s vital that the public can input into changes that will have a positive effect on care.

Jacob Lant.jpegThe group is co-chaired by Jacob Lant, the Chief Executive of National Voices. Jacob is a committed advocate for working with people using health and care services to help improve the accessibility and quality of the care they receive. He loves to combine deep qualitative insights with quantitative data to challenge traditional thinking on how to tackle policy issues.

In 2024 he was asked by the Government to co-chair one of the vision workstreams for the NHS 10 Year Plan, helping to shape how the NHS will become truly equitable by 2035. Prior to joining National Voices, Jacob spent almost ten years helping to build the Healthwatch network, during which time he led successful national policy influencing campaigns on a huge variety of topics. He has also worked in local Government and for the British Library.
