Update on Omambala investigations
Published on 14 July 2025
In 2023 the NMC commissioned Ijeoma Omambala KC to conduct independent reviews of fitness to practise cases raised by an NMC whistleblower, and our handling of the whistleblowing itself. The agreed plan was to receive the reports in early 2024.
There are a number of factors that have caused delays including waiting for the report of the Independent Culture Review and a subsequent wide-ranging grievance. Ms Omambala KC received the grievance report – which was the final outstanding matter – on 7 April.
For personal reasons, Ms Omambala KC has not been able to deliver her reports within anticipated timescales.
In the circumstances, we have decided to re-commission the reviews with a view to publishing the reports in mid-autumn. We will confirm who we appoint in due course. Ms Omambala KC will hand over relevant evidence directly to them.
The NMC has not received any reports, findings or indication of findings from Ms Omambala KC.
