Commenting on our response, Andrea Sutcliffe CBE, our Chief Executive and Registrar, said:
“These proposals are a once in a generation opportunity to create lasting change to our outdated legislation. They will improve the way we work and help deliver better, safer regulation for the benefit of the public and the nurses, midwives and nursing associates on our register.
“As the regulator of almost 732,000 nursing and midwifery professionals across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, we play a vital role in upholding the highest standards of care and practice.
“To meet the ever changing health and social care needs of people using and working in the UK’s nursing and midwifery services we need modern and flexible legislation. This will allow us to be less bureaucratic, more flexible and responsive, and better able to meet the needs of the public and professionals we are here to serve.
“We welcome these proposals and look forward to seeing the Government’s response to the consultation, and to working with Government and our partners to put the final proposals into practice.”
