Responding to the appointment of Professor Deborah Sturdy OBE as the first Chief Nurse for Adult Social Care in England, Andrea Sutcliffe CBE, Chief Executive and Registrar at the Nursing and Midwifery Council, said:

"I'm delighted to see Deborah take on this exciting new appointment.

"Nursing in social care is a vital, valued role and we have definitely seen that in the response to the Covid-19 pandemic. This new role is an important opportunity to raise the profile of nurses in social care, celebrate their contribution and ensure their voice is influencing future policy and developments. I’m sure Deborah will make a real difference.

"On behalf of everyone at the NMC, we’re looking forward to working closely with Deborah in the weeks and months ahead."
