Responding to the announcement that the UK has reached an agreement with the EU over its future relationship, Andrea Sutcliffe CBE, Chief Executive and Registrar for the Nursing and Midwifery Council, said:
"I know that registrants from the EU, and EU nationals hoping to join our register in the future, may have questions about what this means for them.
"I want to reassure those already on our register that there will be no change to their registration status. They will continue to be a hugely valued part of the UK's health and care workforce.
"For those people from the EU looking to join our register in the future - the UK Government has introduced legislation aimed at making this process as straightforward as possible. While there will be some changes to the application process, our message is that our register is open to professionals from the EU and you are very welcome to apply to join.
"As always, we will continue to work with our partners to ensure that our valued colleagues from the EU - present and future - have all the support and information they need.
