Andrea Sutcliffe CBE, Chief Executive and Registrar at the Nursing and Midwifery Council, said:
"It has been a privilege to work with Donna and I am very sad to see her step down as General Secretary and Chief Executive of the Royal College of Nursing. I'm proud that during her time in post our organisations have worked well together, especially in the face of the pandemic and the pressures that brought for nursing students and professionals.
"We will miss Donna but will continue to work in close collaboration with the RCN."
"On behalf of everyone at the NMC, I wish Donna all the best for the future and her road to recovery, and thank her for her inspiring leadership of the nursing profession."
