Published on 11 June 2021

Congratulations to all the nursing and midwifery professionals recognised in the Queen's Birthday Honours list this year.

Andrea Sutcliffe CBE, Chief Executive and Registrar at the NMC, said:

"Congratulations to all of the fantastic nursing and midwifery professionals across the UK who have been recognised in the Queen's Birthday Honours list.

"I am humbled by the skill and dedication shown by our nurses, midwives and nursing associates who have been at the heart of the national response to Covid-19, providing safe, kind and effective care in the most difficult of circumstances.

"I'm glad that so many of you have been recognised and rewarded after such an extraordinary year. Your efforts have touched the nation and are already inspiring the next generation of nursing and midwifery professionals.

“I am particularly happy to see Professor Fiona McQueen, former Chief Nursing Officer for Scotland, and Eileen McEneaney, Nursing and Midwifery Council member, recognised in the list. Fiona’s leadership in Scotland, and especially through the pandemic, has been inspirational and Eileen is such a passionate advocate for nursing, midwifery, equality and inclusion – their honours are so well-deserved.”

"On behalf of everyone at the NMC, thank you to everyone honoured and I hope you enjoy your achievement and celebrations."

Professor Karen Cox, Deputy Chair at the NMC, said:

“We are all thrilled to see Fiona McQueen and Eileen McEneaney honoured for the difference they have made throughout their careers.”

"We are also very fortunate to have Eileen as a member of our Council and greatly value her expertise in guiding the implementation of the NMC’s strategy and ensuring the Northern Ireland perspective is always considered.”

"So please take some time to celebrate your achievement with your family, friends and colleagues."
