NMC responds to NHS England funding announcement

Published on 21 October 2020

Andrea Sutcliffe, Chief Executive and Registrar of the NMC, comments on the NHS England funding announcement.

Commenting on the NHS England and Improvement funding announcement today, Andrea Sutcliffe CBE, Chief Executive and Registrar of the Nursing and Midwifery Council, said:

“I welcome this much needed funding going towards mental health support for nursing and midwifery professionals and their NHS colleagues in England.

“We know that work-related stress and its effect on their mental health has a significant impact and is one of the top reasons given by nurses and midwives for leaving the NMC register in our most recent annual leavers’ survey.

“Those findings came before the Covid-19 pandemic brought additional pressure and strain for nurses, midwives and nursing associates, who are working tirelessly at the heart of the response to the emergency.

“With coronavirus cases rising and a hard winter looming, it’s so important we care for those who care for us in all health and social care settings.”
