NMC recruits new Heads of EDI to support culture transformation

The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) has recruited two new Heads of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI), as the regulator continues to turn around its culture.
Shadae Cazeau and Dee Sekar will lead the implementation of the NMC’s new EDI strategic objectives and targets, which have now been approved by the regulator’s governing Council.
Shadae has just begun her role as Head of Regulatory EDI. She will support colleagues to embed equity throughout the NMC’s regulatory processes – including policy setting and effective decision-making in fitness to practise cases, registration, revalidation, standards, and quality assurance of educational institutions.
Shadae brings a wealth of experience from across the justice and regulatory sectors. She has previously held roles as Head of Policy at EQUAL, and at the Independent Office for Police Conduct, with a focus on discrimination. Shadae is also a Lay Panel Member for the Health and Care Professions Council.
Meanwhile, Dee Sekar has been appointed as Head of Workforce EDI and will join in early September. Dee will identify opportunities to tackle discrimination and disparities among NMC staff.
Dee is an experienced EDI leader and qualified solicitor with a strong track record of driving inclusion and systemic change across sectors. Her career spans a number of leadership roles including Senior Manager at PwC, Global Diversity Director at Chambers and Partners, and most recently, Head of Equality at the Bar Standards Board.
Dee is also a Board Member for Lawyers in Local Government (LLG), driving national equality, diversity and inclusion efforts across the legal profession.
Dee brings a strategic and values-driven approach to workforce culture, with strong experience in creating fair, empowering environments where all employees can thrive.
