Andrea Sutcliffe responds to the International Workers’ Memorial.
Responding to the International Workers’ Memorial Day, Andrea Sutcliffe CBE, Chief Executive and registrar for the Nursing and Midwifery Council, said:
"All of us at the NMC will stand together in silence at midday today to remember and honour those people working in health and social care, both in the UK and around the world, who have sadly lost their lives to Covid-19 over the last year.
"The response of UK nurses, midwives, nursing associates and students during the most challenging of times has been incredible and we could not be prouder of them. Despite the risks and disruption to their own personal lives, UK nursing and midwifery professionals stepped up and continue to provide safe, kind and effective care and support to the public and those in the most vulnerable circumstances.
"We will not forget the sacrifices they made and we will all be thinking of the friends, families and colleagues they’ve left behind."
