NMC Council member Ruth Walker recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list

Ruth Walker, NMC Council member, has been awarded an MBE for services to nursing.
NMC Chair, Philip Graf said:
“I am delighted that Ruth’s substantial and continuing contribution to nursing has been recognised in this way.
“As well as caring for the people of Cardiff and the Vale with outstanding dedication and professionalism, Ruth makes an invaluable contribution to the work of the Council. I know that all Ruth’s Council colleagues will join me in welcoming this eminently well-deserved honour.”
Ruth is Executive Nurse Director at Cardiff and Vale University Health Board. She has over 30 years’ experience in the NHS, having started her career as a Healthcare Support Worker before qualifying as a registered nurse and taking on more senior clinical leadership positions.
Ruth was appointed to the Council in September 2016 and is the designated Council member for Wales.
On gaining her MBE Ruth said:
"I am delighted to be receiving this honour for my contribution to nursing in the NHS."
"I am very aware that Nursing and Midwifery is a team sport and I have been privileged to have worked with some amazing people from the frontline to Board and nationally, with patients and carers over my 30 year career. I would like to thank them for their commitment, dedication, comradery and support throughout my career. I recognise that their contribution, as much as mine, is being rewarded through this Honour."
