Nursing and midwifery professionals recognised for their outstanding contributions in the New Year Honours
Andrea Sutcliffe CBE, Chief Executive and Registrar, said:
“It is fantastic to see the amazing achievements of people up and down the UK in the New Year Honours list, especially those working in health and social care.
“I am very proud to see so many nursing and midwifery professionals recognised in this way. Nurses, midwives and nursing associates make an enormous difference to people’s lives – something that comes through so clearly when reading about the work of those awarded honours today.
“I am particularly thrilled to see Professor Deborah Sturdy awarded a CBE for services to social care. Deborah has done so much to raise the profile of the brilliant nurses working in social care, celebrate their contributions and ensure their voices are heard at a national level. This recognition is a testament to her tireless commitment to adult social care nursing and the difference it makes for people using social care services, their carers and families.
“It’s also wonderful to see Nicola Bailey awarded an OBE for services to healthcare in Northern Ireland. Nicola has made a huge impact to women’s sexual healthcare, including setting up an early medical abortion service in Belfast. As well as being named Nurse of the Year at the 2021 RCN awards, Nicola received the award for the NMC sponsored 'innovation in your specialty' category. Nicola was an inspirational speaker at an event for our NMC colleagues earlier this year and we’re all delighted that her dedication and innovation has been honoured today.”
“My warmest congratulations to everyone honoured in this list. Enjoy your celebrations.”
Sir David Warren KCMG, Chair, said:
“On behalf of everyone at the NMC I would like to offer our congratulations to the many nursing and midwifery professionals recognised in the New Year Honours.
“We are delighted to see Professor Deborah Sturdy and Nicola Bailey honoured for their contributions to nursing and healthcare respectively. Their shared commitment to our professions is outstanding and their honours richly deserved.
“On behalf of the Council, I would like to offer our sincere thanks to all those recognised and to all the professionals on our register who have worked so hard throughout 2022.”
