Professor Alex McMahon has been appointed as Chief Nursing Officer for Scotland

Responding to the news that Professor Alex McMahon has been appointed as Chief Nursing Officer for Scotland, Andrea Sutcliffe CBE, Chief Executive and Registrar at the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), said:

"On behalf of the entire NMC, I am delighted about Professor Alex McMahon’s appointment to the permanent role of Chief Nursing Officer for Scotland and wish him the all the best for his time in post.

"We have seen the invaluable contribution he has made to health leadership in Scotland while holding the interim role, and previously during his time at NHS Lothian.

"During this especially challenging winter period, we are committed to continuing our work together to support the nursing and midwifery professions in Scotland to deliver kind, effective and safe care. We’re looking forward to meeting with Alex again soon and to continue building our excellent working relationship.

"Our congratulations again and very best of luck for this important role."
