We know that being a witness and giving evidence can be stressful. We want to support you through our fitness to practise process as much as possible to make it easier.

The witness liaison team

Our witness liaison team makes sure you have a single point of contact to offer information and support while you’re acting as a witness.

You can speak to your dedicated witness liaison officer about any part of the process, like:

  • what to expect during a Fitness to Practise investigation
  • what to expect if the case goes to Fitness to Practise hearing
  • arrangements we can make for you to be able to give evidence (for example, if you need an induction loop for your hearing aid)
  • other organisations that can help you.

You can contact the witness liaison team on 020 7681 5390 or email us.

Please remember that the team can’t discuss your evidence or details of your case. They can only give you general support and information.

Your case coordinator

The case coordinator is an NMC employee who manages and oversees your case. You can contact them with any questions you have about the case.

Your case investigator

Investigators are responsible for the administration and management of the case, and they carry out the legal investigation. They’ll also be the person who conducts your witness interview and drafts the witness statement and report.

They can help you if you have any needs or adjustments to support you during the case. It’s important to speak to your investigator as soon as possible if you need any adjustments, so they can talk you through what options are available to you.

Independent support

If you raised a concern with us or you’re a witness, you can access independent support provided by Victim Support.

This is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Your feedback

We know the valuable contribution that witnesses make to our fitness to practise process and we welcome your feedback on how we can improve this experience in the future.

Please fill out a witness feedback survey and tell us about your experience.

If you need this survey in another format, please speak to your case coordinator or witness liaison officer.
