Sam joined the NMC in March 2023 as Executive Director for Professional Practice from Oxford University Hospitals NHSFT where she held the role of Chief Nursing Officer for five years.
Sam’s previous roles include Chief Nursing Officer at the Heart of England NHSFT and the delivery of a number of clinical operational and educational roles. Sam’s clinical background is intensive care nursing, where she proudly undertook clinical practice during the Covid-19 Pandemic.
Professor Jane Harrington, Vice Chancellor and CEO at the University of Greenwich said:
“We’re delighted to welcome Sam to Greenwich. Her expertise and experience will have a hugely positive impact on students and staff at the university as we continue to develop the healthcare professionals of tomorrow.”
Sam Foster, NMC Executive Director of Professional Practice and a registered nurse, said:
“It’s a huge honour to be named a visiting professor, and I look forward to supporting the university’s talented students who will become nurses, midwives and nursing associates of the future.
“We want students to thrive throughout their education, gaining the right skills, knowledge and experience to deliver fantastic care that improves people’s health and wellbeing.
“The University of Greenwich is setting many onto this rewarding career path, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to share my own experiences, which I hope will be beneficial to them as they make a positive difference to people’s lives.”
Andrea Sutcliffe, NMC Chief Executive and Registrar, said:
“We’re very proud of Sam becoming a visiting professor. She’s a fantastic ambassador for the nursing and midwifery professions and has such a rich knowledge and understanding of practice and education.
“I’m sure her experience and expertise will be of keen interest to students, and help them deepen their understanding of what it means to be a registered professional.”
