The NMC has published its latest newsletters for nursing and midwifery professionals, including a separate newsletter for midwives for the first time.
Separating the newsletters into one for midwives, and one for nurses and nursing associates, will help make sure professionals get the news and updates that matter to them. It’s about supporting people in a way which recognises the issues unique to their profession.
Newsletter for midwives
The first issue of our newsletter for midwives leads with a story about the Black Lives Matter movement, and how we will work to drive forward positive change.
Readers will also find a guest article from Patrice Corea, who was among those who came to the UK from the Caribbean to train as a nurse and then as a midwife. She shared her experience of moving to England and working within the NHS for just shy of 42 years.
There is another guest article from Caroline Diamond, a Head of Midwifery and Gynaecology, about how the ‘four Ps’ of the NMC Code have acted as a cornerstone to every action and decision she has taken during the Covid-19 emergency.
There is also an update on the new midwifery standards, with the news that the NMC has begun approving courses against them. For all this and more, read the newsletter online.
Newsletter for nurses and nursing associates
This issue of our newsletter for nurses and nursing associates leads with our story about Black Lives Matter. Readers will also find Patrice Corea’s article about her experience as a Windrush nurse and midwife.
There are two more guest articles. One is from Kathy Dalley, an ICU nurse, who writes about her journey through 'uncharted territory' during the coronavirus pandemic. The other is from staff nurse Sarah O’Brien, who writes about trans and non-binary health equality.
There are various other updates, including details of our role as lockdown eases. You can read all this and more online.
