Under the Nursing and Midwifery Council Order 2001 (Schedule 1) (the Order), the NMC has a statutory requirement to establish and maintain a system for the declaration and registration of interests of members of the Council and of its committees and sub-committees, and to publish these entries on a public register of members' interests. Panel members in fitness to practise cases are members of committees of the Council.

All panel members must declare in the NMC’s register of interests any professional, personal or business interests which may conflict, or be perceived to conflict, with the responsibilities and duties of their role.

Please note that certain interests may not be included in the public register due to the requirements of data protection legislation. Panel members are still required to declare such interests to the NMC and they are recorded in a private register of interests.
