Second quarterly report highlights continued success of revalidation

Data published today shows the introduction of revalidation continues to be a success with 75,513 nurses and midwives renewing their registration between July and September.

Revalidation rates across the four UK countries are extremely positive with around 94 percent of those due to revalidate doing so successfully. The proportion of nurses and midwives renewing their registration is in line with previous years.

Jackie Smith, NMC Chief Executive and Registrar said:

“While the first three months of revalidation were a success we knew the second quarter would be more challenging, with September seeing more than three times as many nurses and midwives going through the process compared with other months.

“Figures for this period are extremely positive and it is clear that nurses, midwives and employers continue to embrace the new process.”

Over 110,000 nurses and midwives have now revalidated with the NMC since the process was introduced April 2016.
