We respond to NHS England's National Maternity Review report

Responding to today’s publication of the National Maternity Review report, NMC Chief Executive and Registrar Jackie Smith said:

"We welcome the publication today of NHS England’s Maternity Review, led by Baroness Cumberlege. We believe it will play an important part in the development of maternity services in the future, helping to transform care for women and babies.

"We agree with Baroness Cumberlege’s recommendation that student midwives should learn in multidisciplinary settings. In fact the NMC’s pre-registration education standards already make clear that we expect student midwives to work with other professions to enhance their own learning, enabling them to learn how to provide the best possible care for women and their families across all settings."
