NMC responds to publication of Health and Social Care (Safety and Quality) Bill
Published on 29 October 2014
Wider legislative changes still required.
Responding to today’s publication of the Health and Social Care (Safety and Quality) Bill, NMC Chief Executive and Registrar, Jackie Smith said:
“We note the publication of this Bill which defines common objectives for professional regulators. It makes clear to the public and those we regulate that public protection is still our core purpose.
“This is an opportunity to draw professional regulation to the broader attention of politicians and the public we are here to protect. We hope this stimulates the debate on the wider legislative changes that we need in order to become a more efficient, modern regulator.
“We continue to call on all the main political parties to make a manifesto commitment to modernise our legislation at the earliest moment in the next session of parliament.”
