NMC helps nurses and midwives to avoid lapsing
Campaign to ensure nurses and midwives retain their place on the register.
April is a peak time for nurses and midwives across the UK to renew their registration. Supported by the Royal College of Nursing, the Royal College of Midwives and Unison, we have produced a short animation reminding nurses and midwives of the different ways they can pay their registration fee to avoid lapsing from the register.
Nurses and midwives must pay their registration fee on time otherwise they will automatically be taken off the register and will be unable to practise as a nurse or midwife in the UK. If this happens they will need to follow our readmission process to get back on to the register, this can take up to six weeks. They will not be allowed to practise as a nurse or midwife during this period.
Paying the annual registration fee to the NMC is simple and there are many ways to do so. Nurses and midwives can either pay the full amount in one go, or spread the cost over four quarterly payments throughout the year. The best way to pay is by direct debit. Not only is it the easiest payment method, it also removes the risk of a late payment and lapsing from the register.
To pay the fee in quarterly instalments or in one go nurses and midwives will need an NMC Online account and just add their payment details to it. This is easy to do and details can be found on our website. Once the account is created we’ll send an email reminder for when the renewal fee is due, so it’s important to that the contact details on the account are always kept up to date.
We have produced posters for employers to help remind nurses and midwives to pay their annual fee to the NMC. These, along with the animation, can be found on our website.
