NMC finds improving picture in Guernsey

Return visit took place this week

The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) has found improvements across the board in midwifery supervision and pre-registration nursing education in Guernsey, after concluding its return review visit to the island.

The NMC visited Guernsey between 2 – 4 November 2015 to follow up on its extraordinary review in October 2014.

Commenting on the findings of this return review, NMC Chief Executive and Registrar, Jackie Smith, said:

“It has been heartening to see the considerable improvements that have been made in Guernsey since we were here last year.

“Both the leadership team and frontline staff have demonstrated a real commitment to do the best possible job for patients. In today’s healthcare environment, it’s more important than ever that teams work closely together, so this joint effort is a particularly positive development.

“It is essential that the Health and Social Services Department maintains this momentum in order to keep the progress in governance, leadership and culture on the right track.

“We will continue to support the key organisations on the island to further improve the care they deliver.”
