New appointment of NMC Director of Nursing and Midwifery Education announced
The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) has appointed Dr Geraldine Walters as Director of Nursing and Midwifery Education, Standards and Policy. Dr Walters will lead the work, along with key stakeholders, of establishing the vision for nursing and midwifery education, clearly demonstrating how this supports public protection.
"I am delighted Geraldine has accepted the position of Director of Nursing and Midwifery Education, Standards and Policy. This is a new role for the NMC, bringing together our education, standards and policy functions into one directorate," said NMC Chief Executive and Registrar Jackie Smith.
A cardiac nurse by background, Dr Walters brings a wealth of experience to the role, having previously held a number of executive nurse director posts in acute NHS trusts in London.
"I am delighted to have been offered the opportunity to work with the NMC as Director of Nursing and Midwifery Education, Standards and Policy. I look forward to bringing my experience to the role and to working with colleagues and stakeholders to ensure standards are fit for the future," Dr Walters said.
