A hearing allows the nurse or midwife to attend in person, and/or be represented. We will have a case presenter to present our evidence to the panel.

Both the NMC case presenter and the nurse or midwife can call witnesses to attend and provide their evidence verbally to the panel. This also means that both parties can question witness evidence through cross examination, and make submissions to the panel at each stage of the process.

The powers available to the panel are the same whether the matter is considered at a hearing or a meeting.

Hearings may be held in public or private, depending on the matters being considered. This decision is made by the panel hearing the matter.
