Standards for education

How our standards for education work

We review and maintain standards for nursing and midwifery education and practice at both pre and post-registration levels.

These standards are required to be met by all nursing and midwifery students on NMC approved programmes prior to entry to the register. This will ensure they are fit to practise at the point of registration.

On 21 May 2015 Council reviewed our position and made the decision to revoke all standards for education that refer to maximum time limits for course completion. This decision becomes effective immediately.
