Consultation on standards of proficiency for registered nurses

The draft standards of proficiency reflect what we think the public will need in the future from the nurses who care for them. They are the minimum standards that a nurse will need to meet to be considered to be capable of safe and effective practice.

What do nurses think the future holds?

We asked nurses what they thought their profession would look like in 2030. This is what they told us.

The standards of proficiency are structured under seven headings that describe key components of the roles, responsibilities and accountabilities of registered nurses.

Tell us what you think

Why Research Ltd, an external, independent organisation is hosting the consultation surveys and collecting the responses. If you choose to take part in the consultation, all your answers will be anonymous and treated in the strictest confidence.

We know time is precious, so you can give us your feedback in two ways:

The full consultation - for nurses, midwives, and those with a background in education or healthcare. Give us your views about the proposed standards of proficiency for registered nurses and the education framework: standards for education and training.  You can comment on those parts of the consultation more relevant to your experience or complete the consultation in full.  Either way, we want to hear from you.
