To ensure that our fitness to practise processes are as efficient as possible during this time, and to cut down on any unnecessary delays, we are encouraging all employers to contact our advice line as a first step before making a referral to the NMC.

You will receive a call back on the same day at a time that suits you from one of our Regulation Advisers. They will be able to discuss any fitness to practise concerns that you have and will advise you how we may progress them in the current situation.

This will ensure that you are only making referrals when necessary and will avoid delays in the process.

Our advice line is available Monday to Friday from 9.00am to 5.00pm.

Please call 020 7462 8850 or email employerlinkservice@nmc-uk.org

What information we'll need

When you call, a member of our team will ask you for the following information:

  • Your name
  • Your job title
  • Your place of work
  • Your phone number
  • Your email address
  • Brief details about the issue in question
  • The name and PIN of the nurse, midwife or nursing associate

We need these details so that they can be passed on to one of our Regulation Advisers.

If you're submitting an online referral, please don't upload password protected documents as part of your referral.

You can send us password protected documents once you've made a referral and we've contacted you with a case reference number.

Progressing with cases during Covid-19

We have resumed our casework operations on 20 July 2020 and will be holding some physical hearings from September 2020.

We'll continue to hold hearings virtually and will increase the types of cases considered in this way where it is fair to do so. We'll be following government guidelines to ensure attendees at our hearing centres are welcomed into a Covid secure environment.
