Professor Alex McMahon

Interim Chief Nursing Officer for Scotland

Professor Alex McMahon is the interim Chief Nursing Officer for Scotland.

Previously, he was the Executive Director of Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professional’s for NHS Lothian, a post that he held for almost 6 years, and before that he was the Director of Strategic Planning, Performance and Information for NHS Lothian.

Professor Alex McMahon qualified as a registered mental health nurse in 1986 and as a registered general nurse in 1989. His career has spanned the private sector as well as the NHS, holding senior positions in both as well as having previously worked in the Scottish Government. He holds honorary professorships with the University of Stirling and Queen Margaret University.
