Scotland Council member selection 2022

We are seeking a new member for Scotland, with midwifery expertise, to join our Council.

The Council

As a member of our Council, you'll be part of the NMC's governing body, which sets our strategic direction and takes key decisions.

The Council has 12 members - six lay members and six registrants – including at least one from each of Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales and England.

You'll be expected to demonstrate the NMC's values and behaviours and uphold the Council Code of Conduct.

The role

We want to make sure our Council has the voices and perspectives it needs to shape discussions and inform decisions. Our new Council member must be a current registrant, who lives or works in Scotland so able to bring insight from Scotland, as well as midwifery expertise, demonstrated by a track record of:

  • current or recent experience of leading and managing maternity services, and/or influencing midwifery practice and service delivery through education, research, or policy; and
  • evidence of providing midwifery care during the course of your career.

We want the Council to reflect the diversity of the professions we regulate and the people they care for. We’re committed to promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion. We welcome applications from everyone who shares that commitment.

If you need any help or adjustments to carry out the role, we are happy to do that. We are keen to hear from people with the right expertise and skills whatever your background.

As a member of the Council, you'll receive an annual allowance of £14,724 (this is under review). The allowance is subject to applicable deductions for PAYE income tax and national insurance contributions.

In the Candidate briefing pack, you can find the competencies we will use to assess applicants to help you decide if you have the right qualities to apply.
