Chair recruitment for 2018

NMC seeks new Chair of Council

We are seeking a highly motivated, experienced Chair to lead the Nursing and Midwifery Council from May 2018.

The NMC exists to protect the public through the effective regulation of nurses and midwives in the UK. From 2019, we will also be the regulator for a new profession, nursing associates.

Our ambition is to be a dynamic, intelligent, leading regulator. We are now embarked on setting the standards of practice that will shape the nurses and midwives of the future. This is an ambitious programme reflecting the changing nature of healthcare delivery. Our new Chair will need vision and exemplary strategic skills to deliver this ambition.

The successful candidate will also need to be skilled in navigating complex political issues in a fast moving environment and able to command confidence at the highest levels of Government. Working in partnership with the Chief Executive, you will have enthusiasm and energy for cultivating relationships across a wide range of stakeholders.

As Chair you will lead an experienced, high performing Council in setting the strategic direction of the NMC, providing constructive challenge to the Executive, and bringing a rigorous approach to achieving maximum impact and value for registrants' money.

You do not necessarily need knowledge or experience in health issues, although an understanding of regulation is desirable. The role is open to both lay and registrant candidates.

If you have the drive, energy and enthusiasm to devote 3 days a week to the NMC, you will have an unparalleled opportunity to make a major contribution to patient safety and public protection.

The Chair will receive an annual allowance of £78k.
