About the role
It is a great time to join our Fitness to Practise Directorate as we move towards our new strategy, and embedding a culture of putting people at the heart of everything we do. We are passionate about our customer service and ensuring everyone who comes into contact with our employees receives an excellent service.

As senior lawyer in either our Case Investigations, High Profile Cases or Case Preparation and Presentation team you’ll be responsible for supervising and advising lawyers and case management colleagues to ensure our assessment, case direction and decision making is consistent with our published guidance.  You will play a key part in managing legal risk. Your role will see you taking a leading role in respect of some of our most high profile and complex fitness to practise referrals, including cases with police involvement, cases arising from public inquiries and cases receiving national media coverage. This will include assessing and identifying cases requiring immediate action in order to protect the public.

We support the professional development of our lawyers, from securing additional qualifications to assist with the work of the organisation, through to judicial and other appointments.  Several of our lawyers, past and present, have judicial and legal advisers roles.

Skills and Experience Required

  • Must be a solicitor or barrister with proven experience of managing complex cases
  • Relevant casework experience, ideally in a professional regulatory setting
  • Experience of providing legal advice on complex issues
  • Must be resilient, adaptable and able to meet tight and conflicting deadlines
  • Experience of analysing and reporting
  • Experience of people management (essential in Investigations role)
