About the role

The Panel Secretary is the lead NMC member of staff involved in NMC Hearings. He/she is responsible for drafting the determinations and outcomes at hearings and meetings and ensures that an accurate note is made of all exhibits handed in on the day and any other issues that may arise.

The Panel Secretary advises all participants on the process of the hearing and provides support to the panel in the public session. He/she retires with the panel in private to provide committee secretarial support and to draft the determination and ensures continued and timely adherence to NMC rules and processes.

In summary, the panel secretary facilitates the smooth running of the hearings process, and enables the NMC to fulfil its statutory obligation to protect the public and provide consistently excellent customer service to all stakeholders.

This is a London post based predominantly at our London hearing venues in Stratford and Aldwych. However the ability to travel regularly to other hearing venues in the UK, including on weekends and bank holidays, is essential. 

Skills and experience required

  • Qualified to degree level or equivalent or relevant substantive vocational experience
  • Experience of acting as a committee secretary
  • Management/administrative experience in a regulatory body or similar organisation
  • Experience of giving presentations and speaking in a public setting  (internal or external meetings)
  • Well-developed communication skills,
    demonstrable in written and verbal English
  • Able to take accurate notes in meetings
